Authochtonous natural forest stands in Jizerske hory Mts. passed a dramatic development, which had resulted from anthropogenic impacts. Since the beginning of industrial revolution both species and spatial composition and genetic base of the forest have chenged to mostly allochthonous spruce as a dominating tree species. Forest became unstable, susceptible to other harmful impacts. During last decades, impact of airbone pollutants, secondary biotic pests and unsuitable forest management resulted in large-scale deforestation of the upper plateau. Nowadays, dynamic revitalisation of forest ecosystems, aiming to restore stable, close-to-nature forest, takes place in the Jizerske hory Mts. This process cannot be successful without rescue and use of local genefund of autochthonous tree species.
