Morphological structure and secretory activity of reproductive organs in brown hare (Lepus europaeus) were studied. Significant seasonal fluctuations were observed in some of the measured parameters. The highest follicular growth was found during autumn, the relative proportion of endometrium of the uterus was the highest in autumn and summer and the lowest in spring. Concerning the male organs, differences were observed in relative volume of the seminiferous epithelium (maximum in winter, minimum in summer) and diameters of seminiferous tubules (the smallest in autumn and the highest in winter). On the contrary, the number of spermatogenic elements per 10,000 square microm of the seminiferous epithelium was 81.64 during the whole year. There were also great seasonal fluctuations in progesterone, 17-beta estradiol (females) and testosterone (males) concentrations.
