The study describes results of smokiness and emission measurements (according to EHK 1 and EHK 21 standards) of Zetor 7701 unadjusted compression ignition engine operating on alternative fuel (ethyl ester of rape oil - REE) or on diesel oil. The impact of rape oil ethyl ester is favourable by decreasing smokiness and the whole harmful components concentrations (COM, NOxM, HCM, CM). As shown by using 13-points tests with weighted averages of emission parameters, the emission of noxious substances varies from 4 to 10 % already when the REE concentration in diesel oil is 5 %. The most favourable effect was reached with 100 % pure REE when the carbon monoxide emission (COM) decreased of 50 %. These positive results show that the application of REE in practice is possible and useful from the point of view of reduction of harmful emissions. It is, first of all, necessary to manage high-quality REE production (the samples used from experimental production did not have good quality) and to guarantee an economic rentability of REE production.
