Effect of thermal treatment on late potato varieties

The fields trials, required for the present research, were carried out in 1996...1998 on trial field of Institute of Field Crop Husbandry of EAU, the objective being to study the effect of thermal treatment on speed of yield maturing. For this experiment, potato varieties rich in starch were used. To achieve physiological ageing, the potato seed tubers were treated thermally for 48 hours one week before planting; the temperature used was 30 deg C- that is, so-called 'Thermal treatment' - TT. In the second variant, the tubers were not treated thermally. We carried out phenological observations during the vegetation period of potatoes. We determined the leaf area of potato plants; the dynamics of tuber yield and calculated the leaf area index (LAI) development.
