Influence of compaction on the soil properties and condition of nutrients in some cereals and weeds

The results of soil measurement demonstrated a strongly negative effect of west soil compaction on soil characteristics and were in good connection with the number of compactions carried out. The remarkably negative aspect of additional compaction was revealed in the marked decline in the aeration porosity of soil. As a result compaction the containing of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and calcium in barley and in spring wheat was decreased as compared with non-compacted area. The percentage of main mineral components in weeds was higher then in cereals. The perennial weeds had relative higher and homogeneous content of nutrients than the annual weeds. On strongly compacted areas barley crops were completely infected with Pyrenophora graminis and the intensity of the diseases was stronger on different parts of plants than on soil not compacted. The results of the research indicate that adaptability of weeds on the soil degraded by excessive compaction was remarkably better, thus increasing their competitiveness in association with barley or spring wheat, especially in unfavourable conditions to the plants
