In 1997-2000 winter rape wintering investigations were carried out on experiment station at Lithuanian University of Agriculture. Trials were set on turfy glacious of neutral reaction and medium heaviness loamy soil. Accord, Valesca, Casino, Hansen, Apex, Senta and Kazimir varieties were compared in the trial, sowing dates being: 5, 15 and 25th of August. It was determined, that wintering of winter rape sowed on the 5th and 15th of August made 50.0-83.8 per cent. Kazimir variety plants wintered best - 71.6-83.8 per cent. Apex, Valesca and Hansen winter rape varieties wintered worse. The wintering of all winter rape varieties under research and sowed on the 25th August was not satisfactory. It was proven that determinant factors for winter rape wintering were seeding density and root collar diameter. Plant seedings the density of which was up to 60 units/m (2) and the root collar diameter of which was more than 13 mm wintered best (70.8-88.4 per cent)
