The new potato varieties 'Juku', 'Anti and 'Piret' from Jogeva

'Juku' is medium late potato variety with a high yield and starch content. It is suitable for making starch and chips. Free from after cooking discoloration, it can be used as table potato, but irregular shape of tuber is a disadvantage. *Juku' is resistant to wart, relatively resistant to virus diseases. It is slightly susceptible to late blight. It has good resistance to tuber blight and mechanical damages. 'Juku' has good storage qualities. The potato variety 'Anti' was selected from the cross R 513 - 78 x 'Super'. 'Anti' was bred in the period of 1983-1994. 'Anti' is a table potato variety of late maturity. It has white flowers and yellow skinned oval tubers with yellow flesh. It has a high yield of uniform size tubers. The new variety is highly resistant to late blight and has good resistance to other main potato diseases. The new nematode resistant medium ripening potato variety 'Piret' has been developed at the Jogeva Plant Breeding Institute and included in the List of recommended varieties from 2000. 'Piret' was selected from the cross Jogeva breed 1073 - 72 x 'Omega' N. Its tubers have regular shape, shallow eyes and good taste. It is free from darkening after cooking and enzymatic discoloration. It can be used as table potato. 'Piret' is also suitable for making chips and French fries. 'Piret' is immune to wart, relatively resistant to virus diseases and late blight. It has relatively good storage qualities
