Results of the investigations of the various technologies of the potato production

Two potato production technologies - common and so called 'scottish' - windrowing stones and clods before planting into deep furrows, were compared in field-laboratory trials in 1995...1998 to find out data for their agronomic, technologic and economic assessment. It become evident, that there was essential difference in mechanical tuber damages by harvesting: by scottish technology amount of severe damaged (depth5 mm) tubers decreased 2,55 times and amount of light damaged tubers decreased 1.61 times. Amount of undamaged tubers increased 1,47 times. As result of this the yield of ware potatoes of high quality increased 60 per cent. There was no essential differences in starch, N, P and K content in tubers. Some differences occurred in following barley yield - it was higher on patch after scottish technology. Scottish technology has economic effect, which is coming out mainly from higher quality of production. The recovery time of the costs of acquisition of new machinery is depending mainly from potato yield. For 2-3 year recovery time it is needed minimum yield 30 t/ha
