Cervical mucuc samples from 95 pregnant cows slaughtered between the 2nd and 9th month of pregnancy were examined.After drying and pulverization, samples were dissolved in 325 alcohol for 3-5 days then filtered.The solutions were used in a comparative paired colour reaction test:either 0.2 or 0.4 ml of 96% alcohol was added to 2 test tubes, both containing 1 ml of filtered solution from the sample and 0.01 ml of a 0.062% solution of AgNO3 dissolved in 48% alcohol.Once reacted, the contents of the tubes showed red colouration the intensity of which was characteristic of the sex of the fetus.
