The isolation of yellow rust resistance genes from wheat

Three wheat yellow rust resistance genes, YR1, Yr5 and Yr10 have been targeted for isolation. AFLP bands cosegregating with these genes have been identified, cloned and sequenced. These yellow rust gene markers will be used to characterise a series of deletion mutants, which have been made for each gene. Deletion mutants spanning each yellow rust gene will be used to isolate additional genomic and expressed markers from within each deletion, thereby obtaining a series of clones covering the genomic region of each rust gene.
