The characteristics of ramie fiber is similar to cotton fiber that can be used as a supplement of cotton fiber. The aim of this experiment is to know the effect of soil tillage on yield components of the third harvest of four clones of ramie (Boehmeria nivea Gaud.) as alley cropping of palm oil. The experiment was conducted at Agricultural Polytechnic's Farm of Lampung University from December 1997 to June 1998, that was arranged in a split plot design with three replications. The main plot is soil tillage (no tillage, minimum tillage, and intensive tillage): and sub plot was clones of ramie (Pujon 10, Pujon 13, Pujon 302, and Indochina). The results indicated that intensive tillage increased the yield components of ramie (stem number, crop wet weight, stem wet weight and leaf wet weight), while clones Pujon 10 and Pujon 13 have the highest yield components (stem diameter, plant height, crop wet weight, and stem wet weight) in the third harvesting at the alley cropping of palm oil
