Measure of persistency and its relationship with peak yield and lactation milk yield.

A new measure of persistency was proposed by using "area under lactation curce" during post-peak period. This measure of persistency is independent of unit of time and milk yield. On the basis of weekly milk records of 7/8 Holstein friesian cows for three lactations, the season of calving significantly (P0.01) affected persistency. The summer or rainy calvers were more persistent than winter calvers. The effects of lactation order and its interaction with season of calving were non-significant.
