This paper examines the structure of corn farming, which has scarcely been studied in the Philippines, based on a field survey conducted in a major corn producing area in the country. Corn farming in the study area is carried out mostly as monoculture by peasants, planting two crops of yellow corn per year for 1.6 ha on average. Most of them are owner-operators with a long history of growing corn. The average land productivity of the sample corn farmers is far higher than the regional as well as the national averages. Many farmers have adopted the new seed-fertilizer technology to recommended levels, and attained the level of unit yield that is close to the potential corn yield. Seed-fertilizer technology in corn has stronger biases toward using more improved seeds and fertilizers than that in irrigated rice. There is no large difference in labor intensity between corn and rice production, but very low capital intensity characterizes corn production in the study area. Altogether, land productivity, gross value-added per ha and farmers' income per ha of corn are about 40% of those of irrigated rice
