Effects of CO2 concentration on photosynthesis, growth and yield of Japanese butterbur were examined. The results were as follows: 1) The higher the COB concentration, the higher the photosynthetic rate. The rate of increase in photosynthetic rate declined, when CO2 concentration was more than 400 ppm, and CO2 saturation point of butterbur was regarded at about 850 ppm. 2) Petiole became longer and leaf became heavier by CO2 enrichment within 950 ppm maximum concentration for 2 hours after sunrise. Growth of subterranean stems sprouted in spring and summer was promoted by it, and as the result of increasing the number and the weight of leaves which grew up from these stems, the yield was more than the none-treated
