A wheat mutant with low amylose content "Tanikel A6099" was Induced from "Kanto 107" by ethyl methane-sulphonate (EMS) treatment. Tanikei A6099 showed on even lower amylose content (24.2%) than Kanto 107 (28.0%). When starch paste viscosity Was measured using a Rapid Visco Analyzer, Tanikei A6099 showed the same peak viscosity as Kanto 107 but a higher breakdown than Kanto 107. Genetic analysis revealed that the induction of a single mutant gene was responsible for the low amylose character of Tanikei A6099. Tanikei A6099 showed a high yielding ability. resistance to wheat yellow mosaic virus and good noodle texture. However, it was not appreciate tO register the line as a new variety because of the small grain size and poor noodle color. Therefore Tanikei A6099 was officially registered as a new germplasm accession with low amylose content "Wheat Norin-PL 7" in 1995 by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries
