Protective properties of the treatments of cecal contents on salmonella typhimurium colonization in the bowel of growing quail chicks

The experiments were conducted to prevent Salmonellosis in growing Japanese quail chicks by a Competitive exclusion method with chicken cecal contents. Quails at one day-old and 5 weeks of age, were administered the cecal contents, and after 2 days, they were inoculated with Salmonella thphimurium (ST). ST colonization was counted 2 and 3 weeks after the inoculation. The results were as follows: 1) In quails administered with the treatments of cecal contents at one day-old, ST colonization in the bowel were significantly decreased. 2) Prevention of ST colonization was not observed when quails were treated with cecal content sat 5 weeks of age
