A cross-sectional study was carried out at the 50 farrow-to-finish operating swine farms of Kagoshima Prefecture to investigate potential risk factors associated with hog cholera vaccination status in 1996. Two continuous and seven categorical variables were collected using a field questionnaire. Statistic analyses were carriedout with SAS program. The association between vaccination status and potential risk factors was assessed by maximum-likelihood logistic regression. The factors associated with an increased risk of the hog cholera vaccination status on farrow-to-finish operating swine farms were "Geographic location" and "Total number of pigs in farm" (p0.05). The result indicates that it is necessary to massively propagate the hog cholera vaccination campaign, focused at small-scale swine farms ( 1,000 head), and any swine farms in Soo and Kimotsuki areas of Kagoshima Prefecture
