Field investigation about the effects of the drip fertigation system on the growth and yield of soil grown chrysanthemums

In order to evaluate the drip fertigation system for the hard soil area, the amounts of fertilizer and irrigation, the change of water-soluble components content in the soil and plant sap and the growth, yield and quality of autumn flowering chrysanthemum 'Shuhonochikara' flowered on January were investigated in comparison with the conventional of fertilizing and irrigation. 1. For the conventional, the amount of fertilizer of the drip fertigation system was 26.6% and the amount of irrigation of this system was 82.0%. 2. When compared with the conventional, there were some characteristics on pH, EC and water-soluble components in the soil of the drip fertigation system. The soil nitrate-nitrogen content of this system was 1/2.5 to 1/3 of the conventional. 3. There was no difference in the water-soluble components of plant sap between this system and the conventional. 4. Between this system and the conventional, there was little difference in the principal growth indexes, e.g. stem length, node number and stem diameter. However, this system was superior to the conventional in the uniform growth, yield and quality of chrysanthemums. 5. The introduction area was judged to need above 10a or 15a from the result of estimation for a introduction cost based on the investigation
