[Species and varieties of perennial grasses for light soils]

Over the period 1996-1998 at the Voke Branch of the Lithuanian Institute of Agriculture 'Zilvinai' and 'Meduviai' sainfoin, varieties 'Skalva', 'Barta' and 'Galinda' smooth brome-grass, varieties 'Selis', 'Jotvingis' and 'Navas' tall fescue varieties and 'Gojus' red fescue variety were created. These varieties are suitable for growing on light soils both in meadows and pastures, pure and in grass mixtures. 'Zilvinai', 'Meduviai', 'Galinda' and 'Jotvingis' are on the Lithuanian List of Varieties. 'Navas' and 'Gojus' are in the official trials. All the above mentioned varieties have been placed in the Lithuanian Gene Bank for a long term conservation
