In our experiments we determined the effect of cropping systems differing in intensity on the composition of humuic substances and their nitrogen content of a loamy soil. In the integrated cropping systems the ratio between humic and fulvic acids (HA : FA) practically did not change during the experimental period. In the organic-biological cropping system the concentration of humic acids in the soil increased. In the first and check treatments of the organic-biological cropping system the non-hydrolised soil residue (NR) was much richer in nitrogen and in long-term pastures almost twice as rich as in the system of intensive cropping. In the intensive cropping system (D9) nitrogen content in humic acids (Nha) declined from 13.6 to 6.8 mg/100 g during the experimental period
