New varieties and lines of tetraploid red clover have been developed in Skriveri Research Centre. In the research it was found that these tetraploid red clover varieties provided stable dry matter (DM) yields, better regrowth intensity and higher productive longevity compared to early diploid clovers "Skriveru agrais", "Priekulu 66", "Stendes agrais". The forage quality of tetraploid red clovers "Skriveru tetra", "Tetra 93", "Sata 93" was practically equal to that of diploid early clovers, but higher sugar and fat yields were observed in tetraploid clovers. The crude protein (CP) content was somewhat lower in tetraploid clovers, however tetraploid clover had higher CP yields. It could be explained by the higher output obtained.
