The crude ethanolic extract of P. vidaliana Naves was investigated for its antibacterial and genotoxic properties. Results from the disk diffusion assay showed the staphylococci and Escherichia coli isolates as the most susceptible. The staphylococci were, however, inhibited at much lower MIC [minimal inhibitory concentrations] values. The Ames test for histidine reversion revealed that two-fold dose of the crude extract failed to induce the back-mutation of S. typhimurium TA 98 and TA100 in both the presence and in the absence of metabolic activation
