1999
Ubaldo, R.G.P.
Chinabayan River, Labangan River, Malabnao River, Pangutan Creek, Demachekchek River, Banaba River and Pangawaran River were surveyed for the presence of amphibians. Results in total reveal eight amphibian species representing three anuran families inhabiting the areas: Barbourula busuanggensis (Discoglossidae), Bufo biporcatus (Bufonidae), and Occidozyga laevis, Rana cancrivora, R. magna acanthi, R. sanguinea, R. signata moellendorffi and Staurois natator (Ranidae) were observed. Results regarding the diversity and population of amphibians in Chinabayan and Labangan river show good diversity values and a balanced population for both sites. Favorable habitat conditions may be in part reflected by the stability in the habitats observed. Another reason may be adaptive behavioral strategies of different species where, temporal and spatial preferences were followed. The status of the population may be used as possible indicators of environmental condition but more conclusive studies are needed
