The purpose of this study was to document quantitative as well as qualitative characters of the germplasm to facilitate identification and selection for desirable traits. These germplasm were originally collected from FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) and neglected pockets of NWFP and planted at the Research Farm of NWFP Agricultural University, Peshawar on April 23, 1997. Each germplasm was given a specific number designating the area, the crop and serial number. Days to emergence, first flowering, pod initiation and maturity varied from 4 to 7.3, 77.7 to 149.7, 83 to 159.3 and 110.7 to 182.7, respectively. Plant height, branches per plant and pods per plant varied from 172 to 501 cm, 5.7 to 16.3 and 2.3 to 54.3. Similarly, seeds per pod, pod length and 100-seed weight varied from 6.7 to 14, 8.3 to 46.3 cm and 3.96 to 16.21 g, respectively. Grain yield varied from 7.8 to 1303 kg/ha, dry matter yield from 2222 to 22780 kg/ha, grain yield from 0.05 to 9.15 kg/ha/day, dry matter yield from 15.9 to 160 kg/ha/day, and harvest index from 0.19 to 5.85%. Germplasm SW.C.8 ranked first by producing maximum yield of 1303 kg/ha, while the second best was MN.C.4 with 887.8 kg/ha, followed by SW.C.31 (848.9 kg/ha). Minimum yield of 7.8 kg/ha was obtained from SW.C.401, followed by SW.C.16 with 14.4 kg/ha. The average values of grain yield decreased in descending order i.e. 945.7, 159.6, 63 and 26.4 kg/ha in group I, II, III and IV; respectively. Grain yield showed positive association with plant height, branches per plant, pods per plant, seeds per pod, pod length and 100-seed weight.
