Each and every sector involved in the poultry industry is aware of the dominant challenges and pressures to animal production being imposed by the demands of the even increasing human population. The remarkable ability of the poultry industry to provide excellent sources of dietary protein at relatively lower prices that make the products attractive to consumers is directly related to the reproductive potential of the poultry species. Understanding of the physiology of reproduction of the domestic fowl and adopting technologies that capitalize on this knowledge has facilitated the realization of this potential. In the last decade, the fundamental tools that are employed to study the biology of reproduction have expanded to the cellular and molecular levels and new insights are being investigated as these tools are applied to the continued development of knowledge of reproductive biology of the domestic fowl. A new level of genetic manipulation is available now to the poultry industry for efficient production of quality meat and eggs. The more important technologies and knowledge for the control and manipulation of reproduction in poultry are reviewed in this lecture
