2000
Himayatullah (NWFP Agricultural Univ., Peshawar (Pakistan). Dept. of Agricultural Economics)
This paper evaluates various rural development programmes initiated in Pakistan from time to time. It relates rural development programmes to poverty alleviation. The results of the study indicate that various rural development programmes could not alleviate stark poverty because of lack of proper planning, rigid hierarchical structure, irregularities in project selection, lack of proper scheme of monitoring and evaluation, mis-utilization of resources and political instability or political interference.
