Socio-economic differences in nutritional status of family member and family activity patterns.
1998
Khehkashan, Z.
Socio-economic differences in nutritional status and activity habits of family members were studied. Cluster cum convenient sampling methodology was used to recruit 60 families (20 each from low middle and high-income group) from various areas of Karachi. The nutritional status of low-income children and adults was markedly lower than that of higher income groups. Energy spent on each activity was calculated by factorisation method. As the number of children belonging to different ages in the three socio-economic groups was not sufficient for analysis. calculation was done for only adult members (parents, and children over 18 years). Parents, sons and daughters, belonging to low-income group had higher mean energy expenditure than the other socio economic groups. Only parents and sons, and not daughters belonging to middle-income group, mean energy expenditure was higher than the high-income group.
