Effect of transferrin (Tf) polymorphism on the activity of ceruloplasmin (Cp), content of iron and copper in the blood serum of sows during lactation and litter size

The research was conducted on 180 PLW sows in the period of lactation. It was found that the type of Tf affects the number of piglets born alive in the litter, activity of Cp and copper content, but does not influence the iron content of the blood serum. A significant correlation was observed between some traits, i.e. activity of Cp and copper content and litter size; iron content and copper content. The iron content turned out to be negatively correlated with the litter size. The results obtained indicate to occurrence of interrelations between the traits examined
