Biodiversity has gained particular relevance in the last years. Scientific debate has been raised on the loss of biodiversity and its effect on ecosystem functioning. Several hypotheses have been presented on the relationship between diversity and the efficiency of ecosystem processes. In this work we present the state of the art on the relationship between diversity and ecosystem functioning referring in particular existing studies on herbaceous communities
