The effect of Fluvisol physical properties on the sugar beet yield

The experiments with sugar beet were carried out on Fluvisol and Fluvi-Eutric Gleysol during 1997-1999. Physical soil properties were observed as follows: bulk density, total porosity, maximum capillary water capacity. Soil sampling were made 14 days after emergence of sugar beet plants. Sugar beet root yield was 64.59 t/ha in average. Sugar content was 17.2% in average for both soil types. Relation between sugar beet yield and total soil porosity was statistically significant (r=0.685)
