Efficacy of synthetic pyrethrodis and other insecticides against the American bollworm, Heliothis armigera Hbn. on sorghum

Sorghum variety, KU 439, was sown at Suwan Farm, Nakornrajasima province to determine the toxicity of insecticides against the Heliothis armigera Hbn. larvae. The treatments consisted of carbosulfan (EC) 20 percent, decamethrin (EC) 3 percent, cypermethrin (EC) 25 percent, permethrin (EC) 25 percent, cyhalothrin (EC) 2.5 percent, endosulfan (EC) 35 percent, triazophos (EC) 40 percent, monocrotophos (EC) 60 percent, methomyl (WP) 90 percent and alcystine (WP) 25 percent were used to spray at the rate of 50, 10, 8, 5, 10, 60, 60, 10, 10 and 10 cc per 10 liters of water. It was revealed that cyhalothrin gave satisfactory control followed by methomyl, triazophos, endosulfan, cypermethrin, alsystine, carbosulfan, monocrotophos and differed significantly from permethrin and decamethrin with 54 larvae per 10 plants.
