Heterosis pattern is a key factor in hybrid corn breeding. Hybrids which were produced by crossing between lines extracted from flint corn with those from dent corn were widely used. The present study was to evaluate 29 yellow dent varieties topcrossing to Suwan 3(S)C4 (Flint variety). The results from combined analysis showed that EV 8728 SR BC6, KS 6(S)C3 and KS 23(S)C1 gave higher yield than Suwan 3(S)C4 (1185 kg/rai) about 4, 1 and 1 percent, respectively. But they were not statistical difference. This study showed that there was very little heterosis between these three yellow dent varieties with Suwan 3(S)C4. However, in short term program, EV 8728 SR BC6 is used as a source for extracting inbred lines as counterpart of Suwan 3. But in long term program, the formation of broad base germplasm which is composed of dent races which adapt well to Thai environment is needed as a crucial source of dent inbred lines.
