A serological examination of 427 serum samples randomly taken from chickens, ducks, Moscovy ducks, quails and sparrows in the Hanoi vicinity showed that 304 samples (71 percent) contained the antibodies against Gumboro disease virus at an average virus neutralisation titre varying from 1/59 to 1/258. This strongly indicated a wide distribution of the virus in the nature. In the chickens vaccinated with the attenuated virus vaccine, the antibody titre was found very low, from 1/32 to 1/290 at a proportion of 67-99 percent samples having antibodies. Hens vaccinated with the inactivated and emulsified vaccine had a higher antibody titre, from 1/604 to 1/2045, at a proportion of 100 percent. All chickens from hens vaccinated with the oil vaccine had the maternal antibodies.
