Analysis of flora of some important saline grasslands in Vojvodina [Serbia, Yugoslavia]
2001
Dajic, Z. (Poljoprivredni fakultet, Beograd - Zemun (Yugoslavia))
The subject of this investigation was focused on consideration of floristic diversity of plants grown in several widespread saline soils (solonetz type), such as: ass. Puccinellietum limosae, Hordeetum hystricis, Artemisio-Festucetum pseudovinae, Achilleo-Festucetum pseudovinae, Poeto-Alopecuretum pratensis halophyticum, Plantagineto-Festucetum pseudovinae, Peucedano-Asteretum punctati and Trifolietum subterranei. In addition on the taxonomic range, floral elements and area-types have been separately analyzed, as well as, the quality evaluation. Floristic analysis especially encompassed species expressing a various salt tolerance, that may be of the great importance in bio-indication of such habitats. The contribution of moderately tolerant and tolerant halophytes to the total species number was near 35%, where more significant are species of pannonian and pontic group. Flora of investigated meadow-pasture saline communities has expressed a hemi-cryptophytic character, while great abundance of therophytes (especially signed as salt tolerant species) indicates the influence of unfavourable habitat conditions, i.e. increasing salt content. High diversity of presented species (169), genera (103) and families (29) may be the consequence of low soil salinity and favourable water regime, confirming the position of investigated vegetation, as a kind of meadow and pasture grassland. The quality of analyzed plant species was generally low, with predominance of species of poor quality. Among them, the most harmful are: Lactuca saligna, Oenanthe silaifolia, Artemisia maritima, Roripa kerneri, Gratiola officinalis, etc. On the contrary, thre have been recorded desirable species, even from the halophytic group, such as: Puccinellia limosa, Trifolium fragiferum, Trifolium filiforme, Lotus tenuis, Plantago lanceolata, etc.
