According to the last available estimates, closed on March 9 2001, the value of the Belgian agricultural production would increase in 2000 by 10.9 / as compared to 1999, which would be due to a favourable global evolution of prices (+12.9/) mitigated by an increase of the production volume (-.8). More specifically, the value of animal products and horticultural would increase by resp. 18.3/ and 4.2/; the value of arable farming decline by -4.0/ . The production values of beef, pigs and fowls are estimated to show a positive evolution of resp. +1.0 /, +42.8 / and +26.5 /. Especially the pig and fowl prices mark a steep incline. Beef prices would remain stable as compared to 1999. The production values of dairy products and eggs are also increasing with in the case of eggs a hefty prise rise coupled with a sizeable decrease of the production volume. The value of cereals would diminish by 8.4/, productivity and quality were rather poor and the prices further receive a downwards pressure as a consequence of the measures provided by "Agenda 2000", get compensated by the increase of area premiums. The global production value of potatoes would remain more or less stable; in opposition to the decreased volume of production stands a more or less equivalent price rise. Sugar beet production presents a distinctly lower result non with standing higher prices and mainly due to a decreasing area. Globally (-1.0/) the volume of intermediate consumption is increasing (+1.8/) caused by an higher consumption of compound feeding stuffs, the other items are declining. The prices are globally rising, solely seeds and plants show a decrease. It follows that on the whole the value of intermediate consumption would mark an increase of 10.0/. Globally (-1.0/) and item per item with exception of compound feeding stuffs the volume of intermediate consumption is declining; on the contrary the prices are globally rising, solely seeds and plants show a decrease. It follows that on the whole the value of intermediate consumption would mark an increase of 10.0/.
