[Suckler cows - production, ecology and economy]

One of the aims in animal breeding in the Czech Republic is to enhance the number of suckling cows, which is actually about 80,000, to 230,000. This type of sustainable agriculture is suitable especially to marginal regions. It is characterised by the following average economic parameters: costs per cow and year: 16,399 CZK, incomes 10,473 CZK, losses: -5,926 CZK, subsidies for calf production: 6,600 CZK, profit: 674 CZK. If the subsidies for sustainable agriculture (2,730 CZK) are also taken into account, the final profit is 3,404 CZK. High differences in the above mentioned economic parameters exist between the farms.
