The effect of Montbeliarde sires on the populations of Montbeliarde and Czech Spotted cows in the Czech Republic

Analysed data set consisted of 683 records from cows which were sired by 4 Montbeliarde bulls. They produced on average 5,084.4 kg of milk (containing 3.41 % of milk protein) and 182.5 kg of milk protein in their first lactation. The average age at first calving was 29.7 months. The cows under observation were daughters either of Montbeliarde (303 heads) or Czech Spotted cows (380 heads). The Montbeliarde daughters had their first calf significantly earlier (by 2.7 months) than the daughters of Czech Spotted mothers and they produced significantly more milk (+314.3 kg) and milk protein (+10.5 kg) while the milk protein was equal (both breeds 3.41 %). The detailed analyses of daughters of individual bulls showed significant differences in the age at first calving and the milk and protein production between the bulls. Significant interaction between sire and breed of a mother was found for these parameters.
