We studied the influence of the microwave oven type and the heated substance parameters on the power actually absorbed in the substance volume during its heating. Four types of domestic microwave ovens and glass and plastic containers were used. Drinking water, NaCl and sucrose solutions at different concentrations were tested for the heating efficiency. A relation between the rate of the heating efficiency, which is decreasing with the decrease of the heated substance volume, and the types of oven as well as substances was estimated. A lower rate of the decrease of absorbed microwave power was found in small cavity ovens in comparison with large cavity ovens. A certain influence of other technical oven parameters was also shown. The absorption of microwave power by different substances is probably also influenced by their dielectric properties. The relation between the type of container used in the tests and the power absorbed in the heated substance is not simple.
