The neem, Azadirachta indica, a tree which is widely spread in tropical regions, has proved to be one of the most universal sources of natural pesticides for a great number of insects. So far, the seed kernel extract of neem, known as azadirachtin, has been most throughly tested. Azadirachtin has been tested for the control of the insects of different orders in different regions of the world. But there is a lack of knowledge about the effect of azadirachtin on different forest pest. The aim of the present paper was to examine the repellent and antifeedant effect of Azadirachtin on the large pine weevil, Hylobius abietis L. Laboratory experiments established that azadirachtin has antifeedant influence on weevils of Hylobius abietis L. and it was stronger in higher (0.5 per cent, 1,0 per cent) concentration than in lower (0,1 per cent) concentration, whereas the feeding activity of males was more inhibited than this of females. In natural conditions treatment of 3-years old Norway spruce seedlings with water emulsions of azadirachtin has long-term effect, treated seedlings were less damaged than untreated seedlings. From experiments it appeared than the water emulsion of azadirachtin with lower concentration has not phytotoxic influence on plants
