Willow is one of the species used in energy forestry. It has also been proposed for the purification of waste water and polluted soils. In this study, the cutting-derived willow (Salix dasyclados Wimm., clone 79097) was tested in experimental conditions for growth and physiological response on alkalised soils. Cement dust from the Kunda cement plant was used for soil treatment. The effect of the treatment on the total content of soluble carbohydrates was negligible throughout the vegetation period. Furthermore, no effect was observed on maltodextrins and starch. Reduction in growth was probably the main adaptation of trees to the stress caused by the treatment
