Sarcocystiosis with neurological signs in a breeding-sheep stock

A chronic disease which led to death within 3-8 weeks and caused a mortality rate of 6.5-10.8% was observed among 2- to 13-year-old ewes and stud rams in a flock of Suffolk sheep in Hungary. The disease was characterized by pruritus of the head, trunk and limbs, loss of fleece in patches, severe emaciation, uncoordinated movements (weakness of the hind part of the body) and progressive weakening.
