The number of silver crucian carp has been increasing in the last 10-15 years in the Hungarian section of the Danube river basin. This process leads to the loss of biodiversity in natural waters and causes damages in fish farms. This huge population growth can be explained by several reasons like changes of water habitats, the special characteristics of this species including a very successful reproductive mechanisms and ecological simplicity. In our study we show the male rates in different parts of the country including Canal-Kajtor, Dinnyesi-Ferto Protected Area, Danube river at Paks, Babati-lakes, Isaszegi-lakes. We had determined sex and measured head lenght, body lenght and body depth. We also have measured the amount of DNA by determining the erithrocyte nucleus area. In process of the research work the question of silver crucian carp survival during the cyanide poisoning in February, 2000 was also analysed.
