This experiment was aimed to study morphological and physiological adaptation of upland rice to low-light intensity (shading). The experiment was carried out as a two factors factorial experiment arranged in split plot design and three replications. Levels of first factor as main plots were 0, 25, 50, and 75 percent shading. Sub plots were 14 upland rice lines. In the second experiment about 200 upland rice lines were selected under natural shading of rubber plants. The higher adaptation of upland rice at 50 percent shading was associated with the higher leaf number, tiller number, and leaf dry weight. It was shown by negative correlation between decreasing yield and the above variables. Positive correlation between decreasing yield and decreasing of chlorophyll a length and width of flag leaf. The most important morphological and physiological characters were leaf number and chlorophyll a content
