Validation and adoption of biointensive ASHTA cotton IPM module at sonkhed and dongargaon villages in southern maharashtra

The module comprised of planting of maize + cowpea as border crop, Setaria as intercrop and release of egg parasitiod (2), spray of 5% NSKE (2) and HaNPV 250 LE/ha (1). The population of sucking pests and percentage damage due to bollworms was low under IPM compared to non-IPM (farmers practices). Low incidence of disease needed no management interventions. The seed cotton yield at both the villages, Sonkhed (17.5 q/ha) and Dongargaon (12.5 q/ha) was higher as compared to farmers practices (7.5 q/ha and 6.9 q/ha respectively). The reduced use of pesticides resulted in higher net returns, environmental safety and conservation of beneficial insects. Farmers field schools and adoption of the technology made farmers confident, decision makers at both the villages.
