Emergence of Paddy Perennial Weeds and Their Herbicidal Response to Sulfonylurea Herbicides at Different Application Times

Emergence patterns of Cyperus serotinus, Eleocharis kuroguwai, Sagittaria trifolia, and Potamogeton distinctus, and herbicidal efficacy of three sulfonylurea herbicides by their application times were determined to get the basic information for controlling perennial weeds in paddy fields. C. serotinus emerged at first among perennial weeds examined, which was required 7 days for emergence, but S. trifolia was required 14 days. Highest herbicidal efficacy to perennial weeds was shown by the application with imazasulfuron at 5 days after planting and followed by azimsulfuron and ethoxysulfuron. Herbicidal efficacy of azimsulfuron was better than that of imazasulfuron application at 10 and 15 days after planting. Three herbicides showed good control of P. distinctus regardless of application times, but herbicidal efficacy to C. serotinus was reduced with delayed application time. E. kuroguwai and C. serotinus were regrown after application of azimsulfuron and imazasulfuron at 5 and 10 days after planting and were killed at 15 days after planting.
