Effect of long-term liming on soil acidity indicators and structure

The present paper summarieses the data of field and laboratory trials conducted at the Lithuanian Institute of Agriculture's in Vezaiciai Branch during the period of 1996-1998. The effect of liming applied at different intensity, on reaction (pHkcl) and topsoil structure was investigated in the profile of acid authomorphic sod-podzolic moraine loam soil. Periodical intensive liming did not give any essential positive effect on the soil structure. It is not enough to saturate the soil with bases for the improvement of soil structure. It is necessary to enrich the soil with organic colloids as well
