Agriculture is one of the most important branches in the national economy of Latvia. The total value of the agricultural yield mostly depends on two factors: the production amount and pricing policy anent the agricultural yield. Development of the agricultural production needs modernization that determines the possibility for cheaper credits and direct support provided by the state. The development of the agricultural production is also influenced by the inner factors, such as the state's economical policy in the agriculture, and the outer factors, such as the influence of the globalisation process on the development of the national economy. Agriculture is very important in the rural areas because it provides the employment possibilities and livehood for about 37% of the rural employees. Development of the agricultural production should be analysed taking into account other spheres of the economic activities in the rural areas. The increasing agricultural production decreases the number of the rural employees and adds more social problems in these areas.
