The Department of Soil management of Latvia University of Agriculture has been engaged in an research since 1982 to study: 1) feasibility to replace 0.22-0.24 m deep ploughing by 0.10-0.12 m deep stubble - field cultivation in succession of 1 to 3 years in 6-field grain crop rotation; 2) assessment of agro-chemical changes in soil; 3) ploughing replaced by stubble-field cultivation and its effect on grain yield. These studies show that changes of organic matter content between variants of soil tillage were non-significant. Diverse effect of studied soil tillage systems on grain yield level was not stated. Reduced soil tillage system is feasible in the meliorated soil.
