Comparative evaluation of pea cultivars for yield and yield components under Islamabad condition [Pakistan]

One local and nine exotic cultivars of pea imported form Italy were compared for days to flowering, fruit setting, pods maturity, number of pods/plant and seed yield/hectare. Data shows that cultivars were found to be significantly different form each other based on the morphological traits under study. The pattern of late flowering, late pod setting and late fruit maturity was not observed in the cultivars under trail except VIP which was late in flowering, pods setting and fruit maturity. On the other hand P. Alberto and S. Genaro were found earlier than the rest of cultivars. Data regarding yield revealed also significant differences among cultivars. Generally those cultivars which has less number of grains/pod were unable to secure higher yield.
