Growing corn either for sale or subsistence has been a slowing farm enterprise in some areas of Bukidnon due to the growing population. Most small farmers however still grow corn primarily as a staple. The productivity of corn farming is partly limited by the widespread occurence of acid soils. A collaborative research project to address this problem was established in barangay [village] Bantuanon. A socio-economic survey of 30 corn farmers and an economic analysis of the researchers, managed on-farm experiment in Bantuanon revealed that small farmers were highly dependent on corn as a source of food as well as cash income. Majority of the farmers studied used hybrid seeds and used moderate levels of fertilizers and time. Their level of productivity however remained low and was constrained by the high cost of inputs, lack of working capital, rapid price fluctuation and their inability to prepare their land on time. New technologies are assumed to offer stable returns under minimum inputs. Experimental results on the different P fertilizer technologies have shown that the 50 kg/ha of P application offer promising results and consistently showed a high marginal rate of return
